Mayuna Shimizu is a native of Fukushima, Japan. Since she came to NY, she served as the rehearsal director, choreographer, stage manager and art event organizer/producer in many productions. Also she was an Artist- in-Residence at Nanyang Academy of Arts/Singapore Learning Festival in Singapore and Queens Museum of Art in NY.

Shimizu founded Blue Muse Dance Project in 1998, to provide choreographers the opportunity to show their work, and has subsequently presented work under its auspices as well as with other dance companies and individual choreographers including Rebecca Kelly Ballet, Nathan Trice/ Rituals, Slam/Salim Gauwloos,The Japan Ballet Association and many others.  

 In 2002 she decided to concentrate express herself in her work and found Blue Muse Dance, presented at Dance Theater Workshop, E-Moves III at Aaron Davis Hall (awarded Aaron Davis Hall's Fund for New Work- which received support from the Jerome Foundation), Theater for the New City, Queens Museum of Art as part of the Queens International world music, dance, and film Festival, Theater of the Riverside Church’s NuDanceNowFestival, 9th & 10th Dancenow/NYC Festival at Joyce Soho, The American Dance Guild's the International Festival, Downtown Dance Festival at Battery Park, Joe's Pub, Context Theater, Merce Cunningham Studio, Tenri Theater, Jubilee Hall in SINGAPORE and many others. Also she presented her work as a Guest Artist at International House of Japan; supported by US Embassy, shared evening with Battery Dance Company’s Asia Tour. Shimizu is active as a founding member of EMO project and Yinnsm project, multi-performance arts collective that presents her work as well as film, music and other dance productions.

Shimizu, whose work has been praised by Review of The Arts Magazine in Singapore for its “sweeping port de bras" " passionate...  fiery movements" " Reborn... excellent choreography". The New York Times describe her career as ”Her horizons are wide.” also for her project "A sampler Calculated to catch the eye”. She also has been reviewed and interviewed by Newsday, Backstage, New York Magazine, Voice, OCS Japanese News Paper, The Dance insider and many others. 

 As a freelance dancer, she has been working with Third Rail Projects and Productions, VISIONS Contemporary Ballet,  Battery Dance Company and many others. As a member of Battery Dance Company, Shimizu made her debut at the International Contemporary Dance Festival in Bytom, Poland, and served as a BDC teaching artist for Dancing to Connect in Germany/European Tour, also served as a Festival Curator for The 26th Annual Down Town Dance Festival.  In 2008 she performed at Konya, Ankara (Turkey), Azerbaijan, Busan, Seoul (Korea), Laos, Burma/Myanmar, Taiwan, Mongolia, China, Stuttgart, Berlin and Freiburg (Germany), also presented her work in Korea and Germany in Battery's Asia and Germany Tour.

In 2008 she is looking forward working and collaborating with various artists/projects and she tries to keep discovering her signature and treasure, the works that has universality and unchanged theme of human being throughout history.
